Maureen Holtje, CouncilwomanCouncilwoman Holtje is a 21 year resident of Edgewater who owns and operates Administrative Purchasing Consultants, a local company specializing in public-private purchasing for federal, state and municipal governments.  Councilwoman Holtje holds the highest purchasing certification (QPA) issued by the State of New Jersey and has completed course work in Municipal Finance Administration, Municipal Budget Process, Local Contracts Law and a half dozen other government financial disciplines.

Early in her career, Councilwoman Holtje worked as a Senior Buyer and Logistics Coordinator in the private sector for a company contracted out by USAID for projects worldwide.  In addition, Councilwoman Holtje was the Contract Administrator involved in the building of the US Embassy in Chile and work at the site in Chile during the construction.  Councilwoman Holtje also worked for Hewlett Packard Corporation as an export-licensing specialist.  In this capacity, she traveled to Washington, D.C. on a weekly basis, obtaining export and re-export licenses from the Department of Commerce and nuclear regulatory licenses from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.  She was senior buyer and office manager of Fort Lee Hardware & Supply’s general and industrial divisions. The family concern has been doing business at the same Fort Lee location for over a half-century (1947).

For Edgewater’s Municipal Council, she serves as liaison to the Police Department.  As liaison to the Police Department, she is involved in setting up a new communication system for the department.  Councilwoman Holtje also serves as Finance liaison, Municipal Court liaison, is a member of the new Municipal Complex Committee and serves on the Edgewater Grants Committee and Bergen County Southeastern Grants Committee.

Councilwoman Holtje has initiated the CERT Training Program (Community Emergency Response Team).  This program provides residents with basic training on what to do before, during and after a disaster.  Most importantly, the training aids the participants in protecting themselves and their families during an emergency situation.  In the future Councilwoman Holtje hopes to bring the CERT Program to the apartment, coop and condominium complexes and local businesses.

As a strong minded community leader, Councilwoman Holtje is a committee member of AHOME (Affordable Housing of Metropolitan Edgewater).  AHOME provides opportunities for low-income families to own their own homes.

In 2006, Councilwoman Holtje founded the Help A Child Smile Foundation (HACS), a non-profit organization that offers foster children an opportunity to participate in special programs and educational activities throughout the year.
