Councilman Dave Jordan has served on your Borough Council for nearly 4 years. Jordan is seeking re-election to continue the work of taxes, maintaining a high financial rating, upgrading and increasing the productivity of Borough services and improving the quality of life in Edgewater – with a new emphasis on environmental and recreation issues and programs.

While on the council, Dave has served on the Ferry/Park/Marina (it’s up and running!), Traffic, Web Site and New Building Committees, in addition to the Search Committees for the Ferry Construction Manager and the Borough Administrator. Jordan has also has served as the Council liaison to the Recreation Advisory, Local Assistance, and Health Boards, and the Volunteer First Aid Squad.

Dave Jordan is responsible for bringing the state-wide Mayors Wellness Campaign to the Borough. This is the beginning of an attempt to create healthy communities and active lifestyles. Edgewater is one of more than 160 communities that are engaged in this effort.

Currently a college adjunct faculty member, Dr. David Jordan taught full-time at the university level for 35 years and is a wellness consultant.

After serving with the U.S.Army for 16 months in Korea (1955-56), he graduated from Springfield College (B.S., 1960) and the University of Oregon (M.A., 1964; Ph.D., 1966). He is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (their highest membership category) and is nationally certified as an Exercise Program Director.

He was a consultant for numerous organizations, including the New York City  Police Department,  Cardiac Rehabilitation Exercise Centers, West Side YMCA and National Jewish Welfare Board through the 92nd Street YM&YWHA. He was also founder of a sports medicine center, Exercise Prescriptions, Inc., New Hyde Park, New York.

As an Edgewater resident for 23 years, Dave has been involved in Borough activities since 1987. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Edgewater Colony,  Sierra Club, Edgewater American Legion and Past- President of Rotary International Local.  

Dave has three children and four grandchildren and just won the 2007 New York State and the Tri-State Regional Singles Racquetball Championships (master’s level).
